
New Delhi, 09 October (H.S.): Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman arrived in Singapore on Friday for a three-day official visit from October 9 to 11, during which she is scheduled to hold high-level meetings with the country’s top leadership, global investors and prominent industry leaders to strengthen bilateral trade and investment ties.
According to a post shared by the Ministry of Finance on X, Nirmala Sitharaman, who also oversees the Corporate Affairs Ministry, was welcomed by India’s High Commissioner to Singapore, Shilpak Ambule, upon her arrival at Changi International Airport.
During her three-day visit, the Finance Minister will meet senior Singaporean leaders and engage with prominent members of the business and investment communities, including global institutional investors.
The ministry said Nirmala Sitharaman is scheduled to meet Singapore President Tharman Shanmugaratnam, Prime Minister Lawrence Wong, Deputy Prime Minister Gan Kim Yong and Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan.
As part of her investor outreach, Nirmala Sitharaman will participate in a roundtable discussion with hedge fund and portfolio fund managers. She is also scheduled to hold several government-to-business (G2B) meetings with investors, financial institutions and leading industry representatives.
The engagements are aimed at strengthening economic cooperation, deepening investment partnerships and exploring new opportunities for collaboration between India and Singapore.
Singapore Remains India’s Largest Source of FDI
Singapore is India’s largest source of foreign direct investment (FDI). According to the figures cited by the Finance Ministry, India received cumulative investments of USD 194.68 billion from Singapore between April 2000 and March 2026.
Singapore-based institutional investors, including GIC and Temasek, have made substantial investments across various sectors of the Indian economy.
Nirmala Sitharaman visit is expected to provide an important platform for discussions on investment opportunities, financial cooperation and deeper economic engagement between the two countries.
