New Delhi, 09 October (H.S.):
In view of the opposition parties’ proposed protest in Delhi on October 10, the Indian Railways has taken precautionary measures to ensure passenger safety and minimise inconvenience. Road traffic around New Delhi Railway Station and Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Station is expected to be affected between 4 AM and 2 PM. In anticipation of possible disruptions, the Railways has decided to cancel several mail and express trains from their originating stations.
According to railway officials, intelligence inputs and traffic advisories indicate the possibility of severe congestion around the two major railway stations due to the proposed demonstration in central Delhi. The anticipated traffic disruption could make it difficult for passengers to reach the stations on time.
The Railways stated that a similar situation had recently arisen at New Delhi Railway Station, where heavy crowds and road blockages prevented a large number of passengers from reaching the station in time. Consequently, approximately 5,000 passengers were left stranded on the platforms after missing their trains.
To prevent a recurrence of such a situation, the Railways has decided to take precautionary action by cancelling the affected services in advance.
Under the arrangement, all mail and express trains scheduled to depart from their originating stations after 2 PM on October 9 and arrive at either New Delhi Railway Station or Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Station between 4 AM and 2 PM on October 10 will remain cancelled.
The Railways said the decision had been taken to protect passengers from potential inconvenience and ensure safe and smooth train operations amid the anticipated disruption.
Passengers have been advised to check the latest status of their respective trains before commencing their journeys.
