(HS): Equations in elections to MLCs in Maharashtra have changed on the last
day of withdrawal of nominations on Friday. Discontent among those who were
denied party tickets were wide open during the elections. The polling for the
five seats in graduates and teachers constituency is schedules for October 23.
In Nagpur
Graduates Constituency former MLC Prof Anil Sole has not withdrawn from the
contest and is contesting against the BJP’s official candidate ex-MLA Sudhakar
Kohale and Congress candidate Adv Abhijit Wanjari. Nagpur was considered
bastion of BJP, represented earlier by Gangadhar Fadnavis (Father of CM
Devendra Fadnavis) and Nitin Gadkari.
However, the
seat was wrested by Congress candidate Abhijit Wanjari by defeating BJP
candidate Sandip Joshi. Anil Sole was denied the ticket by the party. Sole was
again denied ticket during the 2026 elections. He, however was form on
contesting the elections and filed nomination as an independent candidate.
Twice BJP
Maharashtra Unit Chief Ravindra Chavan came to Nagpur to talk to Sole. He,
however, declined to talk to the party chief.
Meanwhile,
former BJP MLC and senior party leader Girish Vyas today resigned from all the
posts of BJP and also from the primary membership of the party to support Anil
Sole. He also vacated his office for Sole to open his office for campaigning
for the election. The office is very near to the residents of Union Minister
Nitin Gadkari and BJP MLA Pravin Datke.
Nitesh Karale of
NCP (Sharad Pawar) is also in the contest making the contest interesting and
tough.
AMRAVATI:
Amravati Teachers constituency is expected to have triangular contest between Aditi
Pohare of Congress, Kiran Sarnaik of Shiv Sena (Shinde) and UBT Sena candidate
Dattatray Lahane.
Former MLC
Shrikant Shinde of Shiv Sena (Shinde), BJI former legislator Rajesh Wankhede
and his close relative Shekhar Bhoyar have not withdrawn their nominations.
All the
candidates are worried about division of votes because of the revolt.
PUNE: The main
contest in Pune Graduates Constituency is between BJP’s Samita Jadhav and
Congress NCP (Sharad Pawar) candidate Harshada Deshmukh. However, former
legislator Datta Sawant has not withdrawn from the contest and is contesting as
an independent candidate.
In Pune Teachers’
Constituency BJP is will face difficulties as Sachin Sanap has not withdrawn
from the contest. The official candidate fielded by BJP is Kaustubh Gawde
pitted against Jayant Asgaonkar of Congress.
CHHATRAPATI
SAMBHAJINAGAR: NCP (Ajit Pawar) candidate Satish Chavan will face Dilip Ghuge
of UBT Sena for the graduates’ constituency seat. NCP (Sharad Pawar) Pratapsinh
Patil is also in the fray.
