Thiruvananthapuram, 09 Oct (H.S.):Kerala will launch a statewide special voter enrolment drive on October 15 to update electoral rolls and register eligible citizens, Chief Electoral Officer C. Sajith Babu said.
The initiative will combine village-level assistance, online applications and household verification. It will also include a review of discrepancies between earlier electoral rolls and those published after the Assembly election.
Village offices will distribute Form 6, used for applications to register as a voter, while digital desks will help citizens complete the enrolment process. Applications can also be submitted through the citizen service portal and the Voter Helpline app.
Applicants must provide a photograph and approved documents establishing their age and residential address. Those submitting Aadhaar must furnish an additional document. Booth-level officers will subsequently visit applicants’ homes to verify the information provided.
Electoral Registration Officers have been instructed to examine significant differences between the electoral rolls that existed on January 1, 2025, and the lists issued after the Assembly election. The exercise is intended to identify discrepancies requiring further scrutiny.
Officials will also examine cases involving forms that were not returned during the Special Intensive Revision, particularly where the individuals concerned do not figure in the electoral rolls published after the election.
Alongside the statewide exercise, the election authorities will organise a dedicated outreach programme targeting young voters. Called “Campus to Booth”, the campaign will cover colleges, higher secondary institutions and schools to strengthen awareness about voter registration and encourage eligible students to enrol.
The weeklong campus campaign will begin on November 2 under the tagline “Step Forward, Get Counted”.
The programme will bring enrolment assistance closer to students through their educational institutions. Together, the village-office facilities, digital application channels and campus outreach are intended to help eligible citizens submit applications and ensure that their details undergo the required verification before inclusion.
