
Guwahati, 09 October (HS): Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya on Friday paid tribute to the courage, sacrifice and dedication of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), describing its personnel as valiant sentinels who protect the country’s borders under extreme climatic conditions and in some of the most challenging terrains.
Addressing a programme titled “Himalay Ki God Mein, Himalaya Ki Uchai Mei” at the Don Bosco University campus in Sonapur, the Governor highlighted the contribution of ITBP personnel, popularly known as Himveers, to safeguarding the nation’s frontiers. The programme was organised by the ITBP under the Lok Bhavan Assam initiative, “Namo Matribhoomi Suraksha avam Swavalamban Sankalp Saptah”.
Acharya said the Himalayas represent not merely India’s geographical frontier but also its civilisational heritage, cultural identity and national pride. He observed that the vigilance, discipline and patriotism of ITBP personnel strengthen the country’s border security and reflect their unwavering commitment to the Motherland.
Referring to the force’s motto, “Shaurya, Dridhata, Karmanishtha”, the Governor said valour, steadfastness and devotion to duty form the foundation of its distinguished service. He also appreciated the ITBP’s contributions to disaster response, humanitarian assistance and the welfare of communities living in remote Himalayan border areas.
Emphasising the importance of modern technology, professional excellence and indigenous capabilities, Acharya highlighted the role of Aatmanirbhar Bharat in developing a resilient and self-reliant national security system. He assured the personnel that the country holds their service and sacrifices in high regard.
Underlining Assam’s strategic importance and that of the Northeast, the Governor said national security and regional development are complementary pillars of nation-building. He added that the commitment of security forces remains essential to achieving the vision of Viksit Bharat@2047, envisaging a developed, prosperous, secure and self-reliant India.
Addressing young officers and jawans, Acharya urged them to remain dedicated to protecting the country’s unity, integrity and sovereignty and to inspire future generations through their discipline, courage and patriotism. He also prayed to Maa Kamakhya for the safety, good health and well-being of the Himveers and their families.
The programme was attended by ITBP Additional Director General Akhilesh Singh Rawat, Inspector Generals Clay Khongsai and Mandhir Ekka, Deputy Inspector Generals Sachin Mittal and Harish Kumar, Don Bosco University Vice-Chancellor Father Jose Palely, Registrar Dr Zecherias George, veteran LT Swan Thang, military officers, ITBP personnel, Veer Naris, ex-servicemen, university faculty members and students.------------
