
New Delhi, 09 October (H.S.): Global markets are sending mixed signals on Friday, with US equities ending the previous session on a mixed note, Dow Jones futures trading higher, and European markets remaining under sustained pressure. Asian markets are also witnessing mixed trading, with major indices moving in different directions.
The US stock market remained under pressure during the previous session amid rising crude oil prices and concerns over interest rates. Despite these headwinds, the Dow Jones Industrial Average advanced 0.10 per cent to close at 51,231.64 points. In contrast, the S&P 500 declined 0.47 per cent to settle at 7,765.36 points. The Nasdaq Composite also ended lower, shedding 345.35 points, or 1.25 per cent, to close at 27,193.34 points. Meanwhile, Dow Jones futures were trading 0.14 per cent higher at 51,302.61 points.
European markets remained under persistent selling pressure during the previous session. The FTSE 100 declined 0.16 per cent to close at 10,441.60 points, while France's CAC 40 fell 0.51 per cent to settle at 7,729.69 points. Germany's DAX suffered a sharper decline, dropping 297.39 points, or 1.20 per cent, to close at 24,806.97 points.
Asian markets are trading on a mixed note on Thursday. Of the nine Asian market indices cited, five were trading in positive territory, while two were registering losses. South Korea's stock market remained closed for Hangeul Day, which commemorates the Korean alphabet, while Taiwan's market was shut for National Day. Consequently, the KOSPI and Taiwan Weighted Index remained inactive during the session.
Among Asian markets, China's Shanghai Stock Exchange witnessed a sharp decline, with the Shanghai Composite Index trading 1.21 per cent lower at 3,765.71 points. Japan's Tokyo Stock Exchange also faced sustained selling pressure, pushing the Nikkei 225 down by 275.11 points, or 0.40 per cent, to 68,767 points.
On the positive side, GIFT Nifty was trading 148.50 points, or 0.67 per cent, higher at 22,403.50 points. Singapore's Straits Times Index advanced 0.17 per cent to 5,387.36 points. Hong Kong's Hang Seng Index registered a notable gain, rising 239.21 points, or 1.01 per cent, to 24,025 points. Meanwhile, Indonesia's Jakarta Composite Index gained 0.16 per cent to reach 6,050.73 points, while Thailand's SET Composite Index advanced 0.15 per cent to trade at 1,572.95 points.
