Guwahati, 09 October (HS): Assam Congress Leader of the Opposition Wajed Ali Choudhury on Friday expressed concern over the decline of the Congress and the rise of the All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF), saying the trend does not augur well for the future.
Reacting to the results of the Nagaon Lok Sabha by-election, Choudhury said the Congress finishing in third place, behind the AIUDF, was a warning sign for the party.
He pointed out that the AIUDF securing the second position while the Congress slipped to third was a matter of serious concern for the Congress in Assam. He claimed that rise of the AIUDF is the main cause of rising BJP in Assam.
The opposition leader's remarks came amid political reactions to the by-election results, which have triggered fresh discussions within the state's opposition camp over the Congress's electoral performance and its position in Assam's political landscape.------------
