New Delhi, 09 October (H.S.): The Delhi Police have denied permission for a proposed protest by the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) at Jantar Mantar, citing non-compliance with the prescribed application timeline and violations of regulations during a previous demonstration. Prohibitory orders have also been imposed in the area under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) to maintain peace and public order.

According to Nupur Prasad, Joint Commissioner of Police for the New Delhi Range, the Delhi Police received an application on October 7 seeking permission to organise the demonstration at Jantar Mantar. As the application was submitted just three days before the proposed protest, the prescribed procedural requirements could not be met.

Under police regulations, applications seeking permission to hold demonstrations must be submitted at least 10 days in advance.

The police also cited alleged violations of rules during the CJP’s previous protest as a key factor behind the decision to deny permission. However, the information provided by the police did not include specific details about the nature of the alleged violations or the incidents associated with them.

## Prohibitory Orders Imposed to Maintain Public Order

Joint Commissioner of Police Nupur Prasad said prohibitory orders had been imposed under Section 163 of the BNSS in view of the possibility of unrest and a potential deterioration in the law-and-order situation in the Jantar Mantar area.

The provision empowers competent authorities to issue preventive orders when there is sufficient ground to apprehend a potential disturbance, danger to public tranquillity or other circumstances requiring immediate preventive action.

The police said the measure was intended to preserve peace in the area and prevent any untoward incident.

However, detailed information regarding the specific restrictions imposed under the prohibitory orders and the duration for which they will remain in force was not immediately available.
