Guwahati, 09 October (HS): The Assam government will allot three bighas of land at a nominal premium of ₹1 for establishing a boxing academy named after Olympic medallist Lovlina Borgohain in Guwahati. The decision was approved at a state Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma at Lok Sewa Bhawan in Dispur on Friday.

Briefing the media after the meeting, Chief Minister Sarma said the Cabinet had approved a proposal to reduce the premium payable for the allotment of three bighas of land in the Palasbari Revenue Circle to just ₹1.

The initiative aims to support the celebrated Assamese boxer and promote boxing in the state by creating opportunities for aspiring athletes to receive professional training and pursue careers at the national and international levels.

The Chief Minister said the government was taking a step forward by extending support to Lovlina Borgohain with the objective of producing more international-level boxers from Assam.

The proposed academy is expected to provide a platform for young boxing talents to develop their skills and strengthen Assam’s presence in the international sporting arena.------------
