Guwahati, 09 October (HS): Raijor Dal president and Sivasagar MLA Akhil Gogoi has called on Assam Congress president Gaurav Gogoi to resign, holding him morally accountable for the party’s poor performance in the Nagaon Lok Sabha by-election.
Reacting to the Congress setback, Akhil described the defeat under Gaurav Gogoi’s leadership as one of the most tragic electoral defeats in the history of Assam. He argued that the Congress president should accept moral responsibility for the party’s performance and step down from his post.
Akhil further asserted that Gaurav Gogoi no longer had the moral right to continue as the state Congress president following the electoral setback.
The remarks come as the BJP established a commanding lead in the Nagaon by-election, with AIUDF chief Badruddin Ajmal in second place and Congress candidate Sibamoni Bora trailing in third position during the counting process. The outcome has triggered fresh questions about the Congress’s electoral strategy and leadership in Assam.------------
