Thiruvananthapuram, 08 Oct (H.S.): BJP councillor and former Kerala Director General of Police R. Sreelekha has said she will explain the controversy surrounding her reported resignation from the Thiruvananthapuram Corporation on Sunday, October 11.

In a Facebook post, Sreelekha asked the public to wait until Sunday and hear her account of the events that triggered several days of media coverage and prompted intervention by the BJP’s state leadership.

“I want to explain why the media celebrated for three or four days, saying that Sreelekha had resigned. Please wait until Sunday, October 11. Hear what I have to say as well,” she wrote.

Her statement follows the controversy that began on Saturday, October 3, when she posted a WhatsApp message announcing that she had resigned as a corporation councillor.

The message quickly became a subject of public discussion, bringing her differences with the BJP leadership into focus. The party’s state leadership subsequently intervened and persuaded her to withdraw the decision.

Sreelekha later deleted the WhatsApp message announcing her resignation. Her latest Facebook post indicates that she intends to offer her own explanation of the episode and the coverage it received.

The former police chief had been at odds with the BJP leadership after she was not given the mayor’s post. That disagreement formed the backdrop to the resignation announcement and the party’s efforts to persuade her to reconsider.

However, her Facebook message did not spell out what she would disclose on Sunday or provide a detailed explanation of why she had initially announced her resignation.

Instead, she urged people to hear her side before drawing conclusions about the controversy.

Her promised clarification is expected to address the sequence of events surrounding the announcement, its subsequent withdrawal and her criticism of the media’s treatment of the issue. She has asked the public to await that explanation.
