
Nagpur, 08 Oct (HS): Renowned film and stage actor
Nana alias Vishvanath Patekar passed away at 5.20 am on Thursday at his Sao
Paulo, Goa residence, following a massive heart attack. Dr Shekhar Salkar of
Manipal Hospital, Goa confirmed his death after imparting CPR for about 45
minutes, which failed to revive Patekar.
A Medico-Legal Case was registered with the police and
the the body was referred for a post-mortem.
Nana Patekar posted a message to one of his friend at
2.30 am saying he is feeling uncomfortable. The friend saw the message around 4
am and rushed to his home and saw him heavily perspiring and fainting. He immediately
called an ambulance to take him to Manila Hospital around 4.30 am after
performing cardiac massage. The doctors at Manipal Hospital declared him
brought dead. The last rites will be performed in Pune with state honour.
Born on January 1, 1951, at Murud-Janjira in Maharashtra,
Nana took formal education at Sir J J Institute of Applied Arts, Mumbai. He
started his film career in 1978 through ‘Gaman’ film. He first directed the
film ‘Prahar-The Final Attack’ for which he stayed with Indian Army and
underwent intensive military training for about two months. Nana Patekar was
houred with Pardashri Award in 2013. He received several awards during his film
career and played different roles in Hindi and Marathi films. His prominent
films include Gaman, Awaz Ki Awaz, Ankush, Salam Bombay, Parinda, Prahar,
Tiranga, Krantiveer, Agnisakshi, Shakti-The Power, Ab Tak Chhapan, Welcome,
Rajneeti, The Attack of 26/11.
