Tezpur (Assam), 08 October (HS): Nameri Tiger Reserve has been accorded CA|TS Approved status under the Conservation Assured | Tiger Standards (CA|TS) framework after meeting the prescribed standards for tiger conservation and protected area management.
The approval, granted on September 10, 2026, marks a significant milestone for wildlife conservation in Assam. With Nameri receiving the status, all four tiger reserves in the state — Kaziranga, Manas, Orang and Nameri — are now CA|TS Approved.
CA|TS is a globally recognised framework for assessing the effectiveness of tiger conservation and protected area management. Its assessment covers protection, habitat management, scientific monitoring, governance, community engagement and overall management effectiveness.
The approval of Nameri reflects sustained efforts to strengthen wildlife protection, scientific monitoring, habitat management and conservation planning in the reserve. It also recognises the contribution of forest officials, frontline staff and other stakeholders involved in tiger conservation.
Located on the north bank of the Brahmaputra, Nameri forms an important tiger conservation landscape and maintains ecological connectivity with adjoining forests, the hill forests of Arunachal Pradesh and the wider Brahmaputra Valley.
The status was accorded following completion of the prescribed assessment process and approval by the CA|TS International Executive Committee.------------
