New Delhi, 08 October (H.S.): Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah and Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari on Thursday paid tribute to Loknayak Jayaprakash Narayan on his death anniversary.
Amit Shah, in a post on X, said, “On the death anniversary of Loknayak Jayaprakash Narayan, the vigilant guardian of democracy, I offer my deepest homage to him. When the Congress’s arrogance of power imposed the Emergency on the country and sought to throttle democracy, Loknayak stood fearlessly as the voice of millions of Indians. Even the hardships of imprisonment could not shake his resolve, and the authoritarian government of Indira Gandhi was ultimately forced to bow before his call for ‘Sampoorna Kranti’ (Total Revolution). The life and philosophy of Jayaprakash Narayan will remain an inexhaustible source of inspiration for every patriot.”
Nitin Gadkari said Jayaprakash Narayan dedicated his entire life to serving the national interest as a public servant. During the Emergency, he united the country against anarchy and injustice and emerged as a powerful voice of resistance. His thoughts, Gadkari said, would continue to inspire all Indians.
Union Health Minister J. P. Nadda said that through his call for ‘Sampoorna Kranti’, Loknayak Jayaprakash Narayan awakened democratic consciousness among the masses and instilled a spirit of struggle against corruption. By emphasising public participation, democratic values and political probity, he gave a new direction to Indian politics.
Emerging as a symbol of the defence of democracy during the Emergency, Nadda said, Jayaprakash Narayan mobilised the youth for the welfare of the nation. The sacrifice, struggle and ideals of such a great servant of the nation, who placed the national interest above all else and devoted his entire life to the motherland, would continue to guide generations to come.
Union Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said that during the difficult period of the Emergency, Jayaprakash Narayan made people aware of the power of democracy and paved the way for its restoration.
“Your powerful ideas and exemplary life will continue to inspire generations to come to fight against injustice,” Chouhan said.
Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas Hardeep Singh Puri said the JP Movement raised the voice, courage and strength of the people of India during the Emergency and shook the government of the time.
Union Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment Dr. Virendra Kumar said, “On the death anniversary of Bharat Ratna Loknayak Jayaprakash Narayan, the vigilant guardian of democracy and pioneer of ‘Sampoorna Kranti’, I offer my respectful homage. Your life, devoted to the national interest, democratic values and the rights of the people, stands as an unparalleled example of sacrifice, courage and public service. Your personality and contributions will continue to inspire future generations to serve the nation.”
