Guwahati, 08 October (HS): Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday inaugurated two industrial projects at Jamugurihat in Sonitpur district, describing them as significant initiatives for the state’s economic development.
According to a social media post shared by the Chief Minister after the inauguration, one of the projects is the tile manufacturing unit of Alembi Ceramics, established with an investment of ₹250 crore. The other is a dairy processing project of Kanyaka Marketing Zone with a processing capacity of 20,000 litres of milk per day.
Sarma said Alembi Ceramics is the first glazed vitrified tile manufacturing project in Northeast India and is expected to generate more than 325 direct and over 1,000 indirect employment opportunities. Tiles that were earlier sourced from outside the region will now be manufactured in Assam and supplied to markets across the state and the Northeast.
He said the Kanyaka dairy processing project would strengthen the entire chain from milk collection and processing to value addition, packaging and cold-chain management. The project, he added, would help increase the income of dairy farmers and further strengthen the rural economy.
The Chief Minister said the two projects represent parallel avenues of growth through industrial employment and higher incomes in the agriculture and dairy sectors, adding that Assam was opening new opportunities and moving ahead rapidly.
