New Delhi, 08 October (H.S.): The Delhi High Court has issued notices to the Delhi Police and Minister Parvesh Verma in connection with an alleged incident in which an Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) worker was reportedly slapped during an inspection of road construction work. A Bench headed by Justice Sachin Datta ordered the issuance of the notices.
The petition has been filed by AAP worker Sahib Singh, who has sought an independent investigation into the incident as well as police protection. In his petition, Singh alleged that on September 27, during an inspection of road construction work in West Delhi, Parvesh Verma slapped him and assaulted him.
Singh has also sought immediate protection for himself and his family, alleging that he received threats and intimidating messages following the incident.
The petition seeks an independent and judicial inquiry into the incident by a committee headed by a former judge of the High Court. It also seeks directions for the preservation of CCTV footage and other electronic evidence relating to the incident.
According to the petition, Singh was inspecting road construction work along the Outer Ring Road with MLA Jarnail Singh on the day of the incident, following allegations regarding the use of substandard material and deficiencies in the work. It was alleged that Parvesh Verma and others then confronted him.
During the altercation, Singh was allegedly slapped, abused and assaulted. He further alleged that his mobile phone, which had been recording the incident, was forcibly taken away and damaged.
The petitioner had lodged a complaint at the Vikaspuri Police Station, following which a Non-Cognizable Report (NCR) was registered under Section 115(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). However, the petition alleges that the NCR does not incorporate all the allegations made by him.
