New Delhi, 08 October (H.S.): The Delhi High Court has issued notice to the concerned parties while hearing a petition filed by actress and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Member of Parliament Kangana Ranaut seeking protection of her personality rights. A Bench headed by Justice Vikas Mahajan directed that the matter be listed for further hearing on February 3, 2027.
The court said it would decide Ranaut’s interim relief plea. During the hearing, the court told Saket Sikri, appearing for Kangana Ranaut, that the petition referred to several pieces of content that were satirical in nature and asked what objection she had to such material.
Sikri submitted that before approaching the High Court, advance copies of the petition had been served on the respondents, following which several respondents had removed the content in question. He said that the petitioner would no longer seek directions for removal of those particular pieces of content.
The court subsequently directed Sikri to file a revised list of respondents.
In her petition, Ranaut has sought a restraint on the unauthorised use of content associated with her personality. The petition alleges that her photographs, voice and other content resembling or imitating her have been uploaded on social media platforms without her permission.
The High Court has previously passed orders protecting the personality rights of several prominent personalities. These include former bureaucrat and Drishti IAS founder Vikas Divyakirti; actresses Khushi Kapoor, Janhvi Kapoor and Tabu; cricketers Yuvraj Singh and Abhishek Sharma; actor and MP Ravi Kishan; Congress leader Shashi Tharoor; actor Arjun Kapoor; Telugu actor Allu Arjun; spiritual preacher Aniruddhacharya; Malayalam actor Mohanlal; former Indian cricketer and former MP Gautam Gambhir; Patanjali Ayurved’s Acharya Balkrishna; actress Sonakshi Sinha; Baba Ramdev; actresses Kajol and Aishwarya Rai; actors Vivek Oberoi, Salman Khan, Ajay Devgn and Abhishek Bachchan; Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan; former cricketer Sunil Gavaskar; actress and MP Jaya Bachchan; journalist Sudhir Chaudhary; Art of Living Foundation founder Sri Sri Ravi Shankar; Telugu actor Nagarjuna; and filmmaker Karan Johar.
In these cases, the High Court has issued directions restraining the unauthorised use of material or content associated with the respective personalities.
