Guwahati, 08 October (HS): The Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) on Wednesday staged ‘Black Day’ protests across the state against the police action on Congress leaders in Delhi and demanded accountability from the Election Commission.

In Guwahati, police stopped a protest rally that began from Rajiv Bhawan by putting up barricades. A scuffle broke out between protesters and police personnel during the attempt to stop the rally, in which former Assam Pradesh Congress Committee president Ripun Bora sustained injuries. He was admitted to Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), where four stitches were administered on his leg.

More than 100 Congress leaders and workers, including Assam Pradesh Mahila Congress president Mira Borthakur, were detained during the protest.

The Congress condemned the police action and said it would continue its agitation demanding protection of voting rights and transparency in the democratic electoral process.---------------
