New Delhi, 08 October (H.S.): Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has directed officials to urgently address dark spots, inadequate lighting, damaged footpaths and garbage-related issues on the Delhi University campus. She said that any negligence in ensuring the safety of female students would not be tolerated.

The Chief Minister visited the Delhi University campus late on Wednesday night and met female students outside the Faculty of Arts, listening directly to their concerns. She said the inspection brought several issues to light, including poorly lit areas, inadequate street lighting, broken and damaged footpaths, insufficient CCTV coverage and the accumulation of garbage. Officials have been directed to resolve each of these issues without delay, and implementation will be closely monitored. She said there could be no compromise whatsoever on the safety and security of female students and that any form of negligence would not be tolerated.

It may be recalled that Delhi Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu held a review meeting on Monday with vice-chancellors of universities and senior officials from the Delhi Police, Public Works Department, Municipal Corporation of Delhi and Transport Department to discuss the safety of female students. He directed authorities to intensify police patrolling around campuses, eliminate dark spots immediately, strengthen CCTV coverage and improve last-mile transport connectivity for female students. These measures are part of a broader multi-agency effort to strengthen safety around educational institutions and along routes used by students.
