New Delhi, October 8 (HS): The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has launched a scathing attack on the Congress and Rahul Gandhi over alleged misbehaviour and violence against police personnel during a Congress protest. The BJP alleged that the uniforms of women police personnel were torn during the demonstration and that police officers were assaulted, asserting that the episode was not a democratic protest but a model of anarchy.

Addressing a press conference, Siddharth Yadav alleged that some Congress workers participating in the protest were under the influence of alcohol. He said such conduct towards police personnel deployed to maintain law and order in the national capital could not be accepted under any circumstances.

He said the BJP does not indulge in politics of disappointment or frustration. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he added, has taken India forward on the path towards becoming the world's largest manufacturing hub, while the BJP's agenda is to build a developed India by 2047. In contrast, he said, the Congress' working style and political culture had been exposed before the nation the previous day, and the party must answer for it.

The BJP leader said on Thursday that the mask had been lifted from Rahul Gandhi and the Congress. He alleged that the kind of politics and model Rahul Gandhi seeks to promote was on display in the national capital. He questioned when those who invoke the Constitution would actually uphold its values.

Siddharth Yadav further alleged that when Rahul Gandhi went to a place to have a meal, Congress workers assaulted a Kashmiri Muslim youth. He said that when Congress workers are allegedly involved in violence in the national capital, it is only natural to ask whether this is what democracy is supposed to mean.

Referring to photographs from the protest, he alleged that Rahul Gandhi and Congress workers had acted brutally towards police personnel deployed in uniform. He also raised allegations of misbehaviour with women police officers and accused Priyanka Gandhi of allegedly behaving inappropriately with a woman police personnel.

Siddharth Yadav also targeted the Congress slogan, “Mohabbat Ki Dukaan” (shop of love), saying that it had now become clear to the country that the shop also carried “the merchandise of hatred.” Referring to Rahul Gandhi's slogan “Smash the Patriarchy” and Priyanka Gandhi's “Ladki Hoon, Lad Sakti Hoon” (I am a woman, I can fight), he questioned the reality behind these slogans.

He said that in a democracy, every citizen enjoys equal rights and questioned whether people who do not belong to the Nehru-Gandhi or Vadra family are entitled to the same human rights. The BJP leader strongly condemned the alleged violence during the Congress protest and termed it contrary to democratic values.
