
Guwahati, 08 October (HS): Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday condoled the death of veteran actor Nana Patekar, describing him as a versatile performer and a “true nationalist.” Sarma said Patekar would be particularly remembered for his forthright portrayal of social realities, both through his work on screen and in his public life.
Patekar, whose real name was Vishwanath Patekar, died at the age of 75 in Goa on Thursday morning after suffering a cardiac arrest. He was found unresponsive at his residence in Dona Paula and was subsequently taken to Manipal Hospital, where doctors attempted to revive him for around 45 minutes. He was declared dead at about 5.20 am, according to reports.
Patekar had a career spanning nearly five decades in Hindi and Marathi cinema and was known for his intense performances, distinctive voice and powerful dialogue delivery. He was a three-time National Film Award winner and a recipient of the Padma Shri.
