Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Thursday that 5G connectivity has now reached every district across India. He said that more than 550,000 5G base stations are currently operational in the country, while mobile internet speeds have increased tenfold compared with 2022.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi made the remarks while addressing the 10th edition of the India Mobile Congress (IMC) 2026 as the chief guest at Yashobhoomi in New Delhi. The 10th edition of IMC 2026 is being held from October 7 to 10 at Yashobhoomi, with “Scale Without Boundaries” as its theme.

Prime Minister Modi said that a decade ago, the digital divide was a major challenge. He said that the situation had been transformed through the Digital India initiative.

Modi said that 5G services have now reached every district in the country. India has more than 550,000 base stations through which 5G networks are being operated.

He said that the revolution in the telecommunications sector was enabling children in villages to access quality education as well. Modi said the government had set a target of connecting 250 million students through the various digital and online education platforms available in the country.

The Prime Minister said that digital connectivity had played an important role in accelerating education, healthcare and government services. He added that it was making people’s lives easier and more convenient.
