New Delhi, 07 October (H.S.): India T20I captain Shreyas Iyer climbed to a career-best seventh position in the latest ICC Men's T20I batting rankings released on Wednesday, while ODI captain Shubman Gill retained the top spot among batters in the 50-over format.

Iyer made a spectacular leap of 18 places after smashing his maiden T20I century against the West Indies in the opening match of the five-game series in Lucknow on Tuesday. The right-hander struck an unbeaten 100 off 42 balls to guide India to an eight-wicket victory.

The innings propelled Iyer into the top 10 of the T20I batting rankings for the first time in his international career. He is now India's third-highest-ranked batter in the format, behind Ishan Kishan and Abhishek Sharma, who occupy the first and second positions respectively. Tilak Varma is ranked 10th, giving India four batters inside the top 10.

Young batter Vaibhav Sooryavanshi also made significant progress, climbing eight places to 46th in the latest rankings.

West Indies batter Sherfane Rutherford rose 10 places to 37th after an aggressive 56, while Pakistan's Hasan Nawaz surged 62 places to 48th following his impressive performances at the Asian Games.

There was also a change at the top of the T20I bowling rankings. Afghanistan leg-spinner Rashid Khan reclaimed the No. 1 position after Abrar Ahmed's performances at the Asian Games were not enough to retain the summit. This marks the eighth time Rashid has risen to the top of the T20I bowling rankings. The ICC noted that he has spent more than twice as long at No. 1 as any other bowler.

India's left-arm spinner Axar Patel also made a notable jump, rising 16 places to seventh after taking two wickets in each of his three matches during the past week.

Gill holds on to ODI crown

Shubman Gill consolidated his position at the top of the ICC Men's ODI batting rankings following his breathtaking unbeaten 223 against the West Indies in the second ODI in Guwahati.

Gill's innings was his second double-century in the format and became the highest individual score in a successful ODI run chase. The knock earned him 25 rating points and lifted him to a career-best-equalling 841 rating points.

The India captain's extraordinary innings came as India successfully chased a target of 406 in Guwahati, completing the second-highest successful run chase in ODI history.

Former India captain Virat Kohli slipped one place to third in the latest rankings, while KL Rahul returned to the top 10 after climbing seven places to 10th following his century against the West Indies in the third ODI.

Gill's continued dominance at the top comes after an outstanding run in the format. He also scored a century in the opening ODI against the West Indies, finishing September with 333 runs from two matches.
