Kolkata, 07 October (H.S.): Kolkata Police, in collaboration with the Rashtriya Raksha University (RRU), conducted a two-day specialised capacity-building programme on “Women and Child Safety, Victim-Centred Investigation, and Coordinated Criminal Justice Response” on October 5 and 6 at the Police Training School, Kolkata. A total of 125 personnel from Kolkata Police participated in the training session.
According to an official release issued on Wednesday, the initiative was organised ahead of the Durga Puja festive season to significantly bolster frontline police preparedness for the safety and security of women, children, and other vulnerable sections during the period of heavy public movement.
The training covered crucial legal frameworks and procedural provisions under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam (BSA). Specialized sessions focused on trauma-informed investigation techniques, initial police response, risk assessment, digital and forensic evidence gathering, cyber offences, preventive policing, multi-disciplinary coordination, and emergency response management.
This marks the first major collaborative training exercise between Kolkata Police and Rashtriya Raksha University following the formal signing of their Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), underscoring a joint commitment toward modern, scientific, and community-responsive policing.
Addressing the valedictory session, Commissioner of Police, Kolkata, Ajay Nand, stressed the critical need for empathy, sensitivity, and trauma-informed approaches when handling cases involving crimes against women and children.
