New Delhi, 07 October (H.S.): Bhutan Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay has described Prime Minister Narendra Modi as an avatar of the present times. He said that Modi possesses the three qualities of a worthy leader—wisdom, compassion and courage—and that all three are rooted in a spirit of selfless service.
Tobgay shared an essay on X marking Prime Minister Modi’s completion of 25 years as a head of government. In the essay, he recalled one of his meetings with Modi and his spontaneous description of him as an “avatar of Vishnu.”
“For me, enlightened leadership is the demonstration of wisdom, compassion and courage through selfless service. Today, I see these qualities coming together most clearly in Prime Minister Modi’s vision of Viksit Bharat. Wisdom begins with a clear vision of a better future, and he has given India that vision—to become a developed nation by 2047, exactly a century after independence,” he said.
Tobgay said Prime Minister Modi has instilled tremendous self-confidence among Indians. He has not only given India a destination, but has also inspired Indians to believe in that vision and work towards it.
Praising the Prime Minister’s approach of taking neighbouring countries along, Tobgay said that India’s neighbours have been accorded the highest priority in its international relations. He has supported the interests of the Global South, hosted the Voice of Global South Summits, and led the successful effort to secure permanent membership for the African Union in the G20.
Linking Viksit Bharat with a Viksit Bhutan, Tobgay said, “B4B: Bharat for Bhutan; Bhutan for Bharat. The phrase is simple, yet profound in meaning.” Today, B4B is visible across Bhutan—in schools and hospitals, roads and bridges, hydropower and technology, agriculture and enterprise.
In his essay, Tobgay also referred to Prime Minister Modi as his “elder brother.” He said that five years ago, he had told his “elder brother” that he was an avatar of Vishnu. After reflecting deeply on the matter, he eventually concluded that he had been right at the time.
“Not only that, I now know which avatar it was. Vishnu’s final avatar—the avatar associated with overcoming disorder, restoring dharma and ushering in renewal—Kalki,” he said.
