
Guwahati, 06 October (HS): Two earthquakes struck Assam and Manipur within a few minutes of each other early Tuesday morning, with the stronger tremor measuring 4.5 on the Richter scale and originating in Assam’s Nagaon district. The tremors were felt across several parts of Assam, including Guwahati. No loss of life or property has been reported so far.
According to the seismology department, the first and stronger earthquake occurred at 4:23:47 am in Nagaon. The quake had a magnitude of 4.5 and originated at a depth of 33 km, with its epicentre located at 26.428 degrees north latitude and 93.060 degrees east longitude.
A second tremor was recorded at 4:27:25 am in Manipur’s Tamenglong district. The earthquake measured 2.9 on the Richter scale and originated at a depth of 12 km. Its epicentre was located at 25.070 degrees north latitude and 93.568 degrees east longitude. Due to its lower intensity, the impact of the second tremor remained limited.
The Northeast is considered one of India’s most seismically active regions and experiences earthquakes of varying intensity from time to time. Authorities have advised people to remain alert and rely only on official information in case of any emergency.----------
