New Delhi, 06 October (H.S.): The domestic stock market opened in positive territory on Tuesday, the second trading day of the week. The market extended its gains for a second consecutive session, with both benchmark indices trading higher. The Sensex was up more than 200 points, while the Nifty was also trading with a gain of around 80 points.

The benchmark Sensex of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) was trading at 72,594.88, registering a gain of 212.41 points, or 0.29 per cent. Meanwhile, the Nifty of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) rose 79.70 points, or 0.35 per cent, to 22,635.45.

During early trading, strong buying interest was witnessed in banking and select market-linked stocks. Shares of Kotak Mahindra Bank and BSE gained as much as around 3 per cent.

It may be noted that in the previous session, the BSE Sensex had closed 472.77 points, or 0.66 per cent, higher at 72,382.47. The NSE Nifty, meanwhile, had ended the session with a gain of 133.80 points, or 0.60 per cent, at 22,555.75.
