New Delhi, October 6 (H.S.): World No. 1 tennis player Jannik Sinner on Tuesday announced that he would miss the remainder of the 2026 season due to a right knee injury. The 25-year-old Italian made the announcement in a video shared on social media.
“I have to complete a phase of treatment for my knee, which means that the 2026 season is officially over,” Sinner said.
Sinner has been away from competitive tennis since winning his second consecutive Wimbledon title in July. Due to the knee injury, he will now not return to the court for the remainder of the season.
His decision to withdraw from the rest of the campaign also means that Sinner will be unable to bid for a third consecutive title at the ATP Finals, which will be held in Turin at the end of the season.
“The last few years, especially the end of the season in Turin, have given me some very beautiful feelings and emotions. This year things will be quite different, but at this moment I also have to think about my long-term career,” Sinner said.
