New Delhi, 06 October (H.S.): The Northern Range of the Delhi Traffic Police organised a road safety awareness programme at Mother Khazani School in Bakhtawarpur on Tuesday with the objective of curbing road accidents and creating awareness among students about traffic rules.
Around 300 students participated in the programme, which was organised under the Narela Traffic Circle. Conducted with the support of the Road Safety Cell, the programme used a street play to convey the message that people should behave responsibly while using roads.
The programme was held under the direction and supervision of DCP Traffic, Northern Range, Dr Sachin Kumar Singhal. Through the street play, students were educated in an engaging and easy-to-understand manner about road accidents caused by violations of traffic rules and their serious consequences. Through their performances, the artists conveyed the message that even a moment of carelessness on the road can lead to a serious accident.
The traffic police advised students to wear helmets while travelling on two-wheelers and to wear seat belts while travelling in cars. Police personnel said that using a mobile phone while driving can be a major cause of accidents and stressed that drivers must completely refrain from using mobile phones while driving. Students were also sensitised against driving under the influence of alcohol and urged to follow traffic signals.
During the programme, students were also informed about the importance of maintaining lane discipline and using zebra crossings while crossing roads. Police officials explained that traffic rules are not meant merely to avoid challans, but to safeguard one’s own life as well as the lives of others.
The school administration appreciated the Delhi Traffic Police initiative. Officials said that raising awareness about road safety among children and young people was extremely important. A road-safety-conscious student can not only follow traffic rules personally but can also play an important role in creating awareness among family members and people in the surrounding community.
Officials of the Northern Range Traffic Police said similar road safety awareness programmes would continue to be organised at schools and other institutions in the future.
