New Delhi, 06 October (H.S.): Prime Minister Narendra Modi, as usual, shared an important Subhashitam on X on Tuesday morning. He quoted the Sanskrit verse, “ज्ञानवांश्च तथा वाग्मी कर्मस्वपि च निष्ठितः। एवं युक्तोऽपि न श्रेयान् यदि शीलविवर्जितः॥” through his Subhashitam post, highlighting the qualities that make a person truly noble and worthy of respect.
The verse shared by the Prime Minister is taken from the ancient Sanskrit text Samarangana Sutradhara. The Samarangana Sutradhara is a renowned treatise on architecture and Vastu Shastra. In his post on X, Prime Minister Modi explained the meaning of the verse as follows: “A person who is knowledgeable, eloquent and skilled in his actions, and who is also endowed with good character and righteous conduct, is truly regarded as an excellent person in the world.”
The Samarangana Sutradhara, written in Sanskrit, was composed in the 11th century by the renowned Paramara king of Dhar, Bhojadeva, popularly known as Raja Bhoja. The treatise deals extensively with architecture and construction, including building design, town planning, fort construction and sculpture. It also contains descriptions of principles relating to the construction of various types of mechanical devices and flying machines.
