
Siliguri, 06 October (H.S.) : A joint operation conducted by the Matigara police and military intelligence personnel unearthed an illicit identity card enrollment centre operating out of a residential setup in the Shishabari area near Siliguri, leading to the arrest of three individuals, including two Bangladeshi nationals.
Acting on actionable intelligence inputs, security forces carried out a coordinated raid on Monday at a private premises functioning as an unauthorized enrollment unit. The apprehended foreign nationals were identified as Susil Roy and Litu Mahanto, both hailing from Nilphamari district in Bangladesh.
Police investigations revealed that both individuals had been residing on rent in Shishabari for nearly two years and had allegedly paid ten thousand rupees each to procure forged Indian identification credentials. While the primary operator of the illicit facility, identified as Ripon Roy, fled during the raid, his wife, Pabitra Rani Roy, was taken into custody.
Investigating teams seized more than twenty-eight suspicious identity documents and processing apparatus from the spot. The Matigara police have registered a case and initiated a wider probe to trace the network's interstate and cross-border linkages.
