Man Arrested for Circulating Fake Obscene AI-Generated Poster Targeting Delhi Police Officer

New Delhi, 06 October (H.S.): The Delhi Police have arrested 24-year-old Nadeem for allegedly circulating a fake and objectionable poster generated using artificial intelligence (AI) on social media with the intention of tarnishing the image of a police officer.

The digitally created poster depicted the police officer allegedly sexually assaulting a woman. Following his arrest, the accused was produced before a local court, which granted the police custody for questioning and a detailed investigation.

Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police Manjeet, while disclosing the case at a press conference, said that Nadeem is a Class 10 dropout but presented himself on social media as an independent journalist. He had launched a channel on Instagram in April this year, which has around 24,000 followers and 1,226 posts. The police have seized his mobile phone and are conducting a technical examination of his social media accounts, posts and messages.

According to investigating officers, Nadeem misused modern AI tools to create the objectionable graphic poster. The police clarified that it did not depict an actual incident but was a deliberate act of digital fabrication. Its alleged purpose was to seriously damage the police officer’s reputation in the eyes of the public and create a misleading impression.

The development comes against the backdrop of a protest in Delhi against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, during which an Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) was accused of allegedly misbehaving with a woman journalist. Around the same time, several objectionable and misleading pieces of content targeting the officer were circulated on social media.

The police are now investigating whether an organised group or a larger conspiracy was behind the creation and circulation of the fake poster. The accused’s digital footprints are being examined forensically to determine who created or commissioned the poster and which accounts first circulated it.
