Mumbai,
05 Oct (HS): Water Resource Minister Girish Mahajan has announced 10 percent
water cut in the entire Maharashtra. The
decision has been taken as Maharashtra is facing the drought situation. The
water resources department has planned water management according to the water
available in the lakes.
According
to Mahajan, the state has limited water resources. A dam and use-by-water plan
is in place until August 31, 2027, to deal with a possible drought-like
situation. Drinking water has been given top priority so that the people of the
state do not face any shortage of drinking water. Instructions have been given
to cut water by at least 10 per cent in all urban bodies from 16 October 2026.
Mahajan
informed that drought has been declared in 265 tehsils of the state. Keeping in
mind the possibility of El Nino effect till next year, the Water Resources
Department has given clear orders to all the concerned agencies to reduce the
use of water and take strict measures.
Drinking
water will be given top priority.
