
New Delhi, 05 October (H.S.): The Indian stock market opened in positive territory on Monday, the first trading day of the week, ahead of the Reserve Bank of India’s Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) review meeting. Both benchmark indices were trading higher in early trade, with the Sensex gaining nearly 520 points and the Nifty rising by around 180 points.
The benchmark Sensex of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) was trading at 72,427.33 in early trade, up 517.62 points, or 0.72 per cent. Meanwhile, the Nifty of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) was trading at 22,554.40, registering a gain of 132.45 points, or 0.59 per cent. Buying interest was particularly strong in banking, metal and FMCG stocks.
The Indian rupee also witnessed a marginal strengthening. In early trading in the foreign exchange market, the rupee was seen trading at 96.20 against the US dollar, gaining 5 paise.
It may be recalled that the stock market had declined on the last trading session of the previous week, Friday, October 1. The Sensex fell 570 points to close at 71,910, while the Nifty declined 198 points to close at 22,422.
