New Delhi, 05 October (H.S.): India and the West Indies have been fined 20 per cent and 10 per cent of their respective match fees for maintaining slow over rates in the third and final ODI of the three-match series played in New Chandigarh on Saturday. After taking the time allowances into account, India was found to be four overs short of the required over rate, while the West Indies fell two overs behind.
Both captains admitted the offence and accepted the proposed sanctions, thereby making a formal hearing unnecessary.
The sanctions were imposed by Prakash Bhatt of the ICC International Match Referees' Panel. The slow-over-rate charges were brought by on-field umpires Jayaraman Madanagopal and Sam Nogajski, third umpire Sharfuddoula Ibne Shahid and fourth umpire Virendra Sharma.
The West Indies had already conceded the three-match series 0-2 before the third ODI, but registered a historic victory in New Chandigarh to end the ODI leg of their India tour on a high. Shai Hope played a pivotal role in the victory with an unbeaten 162. Chasing a target of 352, the West Indies successfully completed the chase, recording their highest successful run chase in men's ODI cricket.
Both teams will now turn their attention to the five-match T20 International series, with the first match scheduled to be played on October 6.
