Bhubaneswar, 05 October (H.S.): Odisha Vigilance on Monday apprehended Niranjan Singh, Revenue Inspector (RI) of Keshari Nagar RI Circle under Unit-VI in Bhubaneswar, while allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 5,000 from an applicant to facilitate the issuance of a legal heir certificate.
According to the Vigilance, the complainant had applied online on September 9, 2026, for issuance of a legal heir certificate following the death of his mother and younger brother. Despite submitting all the required documents, the applicant allegedly had to meet the Revenue Inspector three to four times to get the enquiry report forwarded to the competent authority.
The Vigilance said Singh allegedly delayed forwarding the report and demanded Rs 5,000 from the applicant for processing the application and forwarding the enquiry report online to the concerned officer.
After the applicant approached Odisha Vigilance, a trap was laid on Monday. The Vigilance team allegedly caught Singh while accepting the bribe amount of Rs 5,000 from the complainant as per the trap instructions.
Following the trap, Odisha Vigilance launched simultaneous searches at two locations linked to the accused Revenue Inspector as part of an investigation into his alleged possession of disproportionate assets.
In connection with the case, Bhubaneswar Vigilance Police Station Case No. 22, dated October 3, 2026, has been registered under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, as amended in 2018.
