New Delhi, 05 October (H.S.): Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah and several other leaders on Monday paid their respects to Guru Nanak Dev, the founder of Sikhism, on the occasion of his Jyoti Jot Divas.

Om Birla said in a post on X, “I pay my deepest respects to Guru Nanak Dev Ji, the founder of Sikhism and the First Patshahi, on his Jyoti Jot Divas. A great pioneer of humanity, equality and spiritual consciousness, Guru Nanak Dev Ji conveyed to the world through his life the message of truth, compassion, humanity and goodness. He fearlessly raised his voice against superstition, discrimination, the caste system and social evils prevalent in society. Guru Sahib’s philosophy shows the path towards the welfare of all living beings. His message, founded on love, compassion, service, truth, brotherhood and mutual respect, remains as relevant today as ever.”

Amit Shah said that Guru Nanak Dev’s message of “Naam Japo, Kirat Karo, Vand Chhako” continues to inspire every person to work honestly and share the fruits of that hard work with others. He said Guru Nanak Dev’s teachings, which encapsulate the essence of thousands of years of India’s cultural journey, would continue to inspire everyone to follow the path of truth, service and harmony.

Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju said that, through the message of “Ik Onkar,” Guru Nanak Dev showed humanity the path of truth, equality, service and brotherhood. He also opposed caste-based distinctions, discrimination and social evils, while conveying the message of equality and respect for all human beings. His sacred teachings continue to inspire everyone to follow the path of selfless service, charity and the welfare of humanity.

Union Culture and Tourism Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat quoted a line attributed to Guru Nanak, saying, “Nanak Naam Chardi Kala, Tere Bhane Sarbat Da Bhala.”

Union Textiles Minister Giriraj Singh said Guru Nanak Dev, the founder and First Guru of Sikhism, embodied love, compassion, harmony among people of all faiths and social unity.

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Nitin Nabin said Guru Nanak Dev showed humanity the path of service, harmony and equality through his teachings and his life. As the founder of Sikhism, he conveyed the message that truth, compassion and service to humanity should form the foundation of life. He prayed that Guru Sahib’s teachings would always continue to guide everyone and that people would adopt the ideals taught by him in their lives and contribute to the welfare of society and the nation.
