Prayagraj, 5 Oct (HS): On

the occasion of World Habitat Day, 137 Composite Ecological Task Force

Battalion (Territorial Army), 39 Gorkha Rifles, popularly known as the Ganga

Task Force, conducted awareness campaigns across Prayagraj, Varanasi, Kanpur

and Lucknow. The initiative highlighted the importance of clean and sustainable

habitats, responsible waste management and community participation in

environmental conservation.

The

campaigns were organised at Kali Ghat in Prayagraj; SHEAT Public School,

Adampur, in Varanasi; Shivnath Shivdas Maurya Inter College, Sarsoul, in

Kanpur; and Kudiya Ghat in Lucknow. Approximately 1,200 participants, including

representatives of non-governmental organisations, students and local

residents, actively participated in the initiative.

The

outreach focused on cleanliness, pollution prevention, responsible waste

disposal and conservation of the Ganga and Gomti rivers. Participants were

sensitised to the connection between healthy rivers, clean surroundings and the

well-being of communities dependent on these water bodies.

The

campaigns emphasised that sustainable habitats require consistent efforts to

keep public spaces clean, prevent pollution and manage waste responsibly. They

encouraged participants to view environmental protection as a shared

responsibility and contribute through simple, sustained actions in their daily

lives.

The

participation of students highlighted the importance of nurturing environmental

awareness among young people, who can carry the message of cleanliness and

conservation to their families and neighbourhoods. The involvement of NGOs and

local residents further reinforced the role of collective action in creating

healthier surroundings.

By

reaching out to communities at educational institutions and riverfront

locations, the Ganga Task Force connected the message of World Habitat Day with

local environmental concerns. The initiative underscored the importance of

protecting rivers and their surrounding habitats through public awareness and

responsible behaviour.

The

campaigns reaffirmed the Ganga Task Force’s commitment to ecological protection

and community engagement. Supporting the objectives of Swachh Bharat, the

initiative encouraged citizens to contribute towards cleaner habitats,

healthier rivers and a more sustainable environment, informed Wg Cdr Debartho

Dhar, Pro & Spokesperson, Ministry of Defence, Prayagraj.
