New Delhi, 05 October (H.S.):
The Patiala House Court has framed charges against Ashish Bachhas, the accused driver who allegedly ran over and killed two people with a speeding Thar in Chanakyapuri in August 2025. Special Judge Bhupender Singh ordered that charges be framed under various provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. The next hearing in the case will be held on December 5.
The court also ordered charges to be framed against another accused, Ndubuisi, along with Ashish Bachhas. Charges were framed under Sections 8(c), 20(a), 22(a) and 22(c) of the NDPS Act. During the hearing, both accused denied the allegations and stated that they were prepared to face trial. Ashish has already been granted bail in the case, while Ndubuisi remains in judicial custody.
The incident took place on August 10, 2025. On that morning, a white Thar travelling at high speed ran over two pedestrians who were walking along the footpath. The impact was so severe that the two pedestrians were dragged for some distance. One of the pedestrians subsequently succumbed to his injuries. One of the vehicle’s front wheels also came off following the collision. Ashish was arrested at the spot after the accident. During questioning, he reportedly told the police that he had fallen asleep while driving, which led to the accident.
The police also recovered a bottle of liquor from the Thar. Ashish, who is a resident of East Delhi, was returning home from Dhaula Kuan on the day of the incident. The Thar did not belong to Ashish; it was owned by his friend Ankit, a resident of Ghaziabad.
