Palakkad, 05 Oct (H.S.): The CPI(M) is considering further disciplinary action against E.N. Suresh Babu, who was removed as its Palakkad district secretary following a woman lawyer’s complaint alleging inappropriate behaviour at the party’s district committee office.
According to reports, the woman submitted digital evidence to support her allegations. She alleged that Suresh Babu behaved improperly when she visited the office for organisational work during the election period.
The complainant subsequently approached CPI(M) general secretary M.A. Baby and Kerala state secretary M.V. Govindan, seeking action against the district secretary. Reports said she also informed the leadership that she would approach the police if the party failed to act.
Her warning reportedly prompted the leadership to remove Suresh Babu from the district secretary’s post. The nature of the digital material submitted and details of any further disciplinary measures have not been publicly disclosed.
During an expanded meeting of the Palakkad district committee, state leaders reportedly summoned Suresh Babu, read out the complaint and asked him to step down.
He agreed to relinquish the position but requested that the allegations against him should not be discussed before the expanded committee, according to reports. Speaking to the media afterwards, Suresh Babu attributed his departure to personal reasons.
Meanwhile, P.K. Sasi sharply criticised the former district secretary, saying he had damaged the political careers of several people.
Sasi denied that he or his associates had brought the woman’s complaint before the party leadership. He said allegations that Suresh Babu had collected crores of rupees and misused his office had been raised by CPI(M) members themselves.
Describing betrayal as something that eventually rebounds on those responsible, Sasi also claimed that Suresh Babu would continue to enjoy the support of leaders, including Govindan.
The allegations remain unproven, and the supplied account contains no detailed response from Suresh Babu.
