New Delhi, 05 October (H.S.): The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has caught a Delhi Police sub-inspector red-handed in a bribery case. The police officer allegedly demanded a bribe of Rs 1 lakh in exchange for providing relief to a person in a criminal case registered against him.

According to the CBI, the accused has been identified as Lekhraj, who is posted as a sub-inspector and investigating officer at Prashant Vihar Police Station in Delhi.

The agency registered a case on October 4 based on a complaint alleging that Lekhraj had demanded a bribe of Rs 1 lakh in exchange for helping the complainant in a criminal case registered against him at Prashant Vihar Police Station.

According to the CBI, during a search of the complainant, the accused allegedly pressured him into handing over Rs 20,000 that was in his pocket. He subsequently asked the complainant to bring the remaining Rs 80,000 the following day.

After verifying the complaint, the CBI laid a trap on October 4. The accused sub-inspector was caught red-handed while allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 80,000 from the complainant. He was subsequently taken into custody.

The CBI said that further investigation in the case is underway and all aspects related to the alleged demand and acceptance of the bribe are being examined.
