New Delhi, October 4 (HS): Three women journalists have alleged that they were sexually harassed by police personnel amid a law-and-order situation during a protest in New Delhi on October 3. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) subsequently staged a protest outside the Parliament Street Police Station. The police have transferred the matter to the Crime Branch for an impartial investigation.
Delhi AAP convenor Saurabh Bharadwaj and party workers staged a protest outside the Parliament Street Police Station on Sunday. The protesters demanded the registration of an FIR in connection with the alleged sexual harassment of three women journalists during the protest.
Saurabh Bharadwaj said that police stations and hospitals should remain open 24 hours a day. He questioned how a police station could be closed. He said that if someone comes to lodge a complaint and seek accountability, it is inappropriate for the police station itself to be closed. He also alleged that all routes leading to the police station had been blocked.
AAP MLA Kuldeep Kumar questioned where the complaints had been received and why an FIR had not yet been registered. He said that registering an FIR is a right of citizens and that the courts also recognise this right. He questioned whether every person would have to stage a protest in order to obtain justice.
