Guwahati, 04 October (HS): Slogans in support of the All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) were reportedly raised during an election meeting addressed by Assam Congress president Gaurav Gogoi, amid the ongoing campaign for the Nagaon Lok Sabha by-election.

According to claims made in connection with the incident, the gathering witnessed slogans of “AIUDF Zindabad”, following which some people allegedly expressed their anger against the Congress and damaged chairs at the venue.

It was further alleged that Congress workers had approached Laharighat MLA Asif Mohammad Nazar at his residence during the night, seeking support from local religious leaders as part of efforts to strengthen the party’s electoral campaign. However, the claims that Gogoi had sought votes from religious leaders and failed to receive their support could not be independently verified.

The Nagaon Lok Sabha by-election is scheduled for October 6, with the campaign entering its final phase today. Congress candidate Shivamoni Bora and BJP-led NDA candidate Debashish Sharma are among the principal contestants.-----------
