Guwahati, 04 October (HS): Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma has announced on Sunday that the government is moving ahead with a plan to establish 60 new libraries across Guwahati, with one library proposed in each ward.

In a social media post, Sarma said the libraries would be developed through a joint initiative of the Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) and the State Bank of India (SBI). He said the proposed facilities would serve as new centres for learning, intellectual engagement and creativity for residents of the city.

The Chief Minister said access to a good book and a well-equipped library could contribute to an enlightened society. He added that taking library facilities to every ward of Guwahati was therefore an important initiative.

The GMC is the urban local body responsible for the administration and development of Guwahati.-----------
