New Delhi, 31 October (H.S.): As October draws to a close and November approaches, investors and traders dealing in the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), the National Stock Exchange (NSE) and the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX) should take note of the upcoming market holidays. The stock market will remain closed for regular trading on 11 days during the month. This means that trading will take place on only 19 days in November, which has 30 days.

Stock markets and the Multi Commodity Exchange generally remain closed every Saturday and Sunday as part of their weekly holiday schedule. In addition to these regular weekend closures, exchanges also suspend trading on certain festivals and national holidays. In November, there will be nine weekend holidays, including Saturdays and Sundays. The markets will also remain closed on two working days on account of festivals.

The first trading holiday will fall on November 10, on the occasion of Diwali-Balipratipada. Subsequently, the BSE, NSE and MCX will remain closed on November 24 to mark Prakash Gurpurb Sri Guru Nanak Dev.

On both November 10 and 24, trading will remain suspended across the main segments of the BSE and NSE, including equity, equity derivatives and currency derivatives. However, commodity derivatives and Electronic Gold Receipts (EGRs) will not remain completely closed. Their morning session, scheduled from 9 am to 5 pm, will remain suspended, while the evening session will operate as usual from 5 pm until 11:30 pm or 11:55 pm, depending on the segment. The same arrangement will apply to the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX).

This year, Diwali will be celebrated on November 8. Since the festival falls on a Sunday, regular stock market trading will remain suspended. However, in keeping with the long-standing tradition of the Indian stock market, the exchanges will conduct a special one-hour Muhurat Trading session in the afternoon. Both the BSE and NSE have announced the schedule for the special session.

According to the timetable issued by the exchanges, trading members will be allowed to log in between 1:15 pm and 1:50 pm on November 8. The block deal window will remain open from 1:50 pm to 2:05 pm, followed by the pre-open session from 2:05 pm to 2:20 pm. The main Muhurat Trading session will run from 2:20 pm to 3:30 pm.

The periodic call auction session is scheduled from 2:25 pm to 3:20 pm, while the closing auction session will take place between 3:15 pm and 3:35 pm. The post-closing session will be held from 3:50 pm to 4 pm.

After the 11 November holidays, including the regular weekend closures, December will have only one additional weekday trading holiday apart from Saturdays and Sundays. The final official market holiday of 2026 will be observed on December 25 on the occasion of Christmas, when the stock market will remain completely closed.
