Guwahati, 31 October (HS): Manas National Park in Assam has welcomed a new addition to its rhino family, with a female rhinoceros named Ganga-K giving birth to a healthy calf, marking another milestone in wildlife conservation.

Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma shared the news on social media on Saturday, expressing happiness over the birth of the newborn rhino calf.

According to the Chief Minister's post, Ganga, the second generation of a rhinoceros named Ganga, gave birth to the calf a few days ago. Ganga had earlier been rescued during floods in the Brahmaputra river.

With the birth of the new calf, the lineage of Ganga has now reached its third generation at Manas National Park, highlighting the progress of rhino conservation efforts in the region.

Describing the development as more than just a heartwarming family story, Sarma said it represented another green chapter in the success of wildlife conservation.

The development is being seen as an encouraging sign for the conservation and protection of the greater one-horned rhinoceros in Assam, particularly at Manas National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.-----------
