Shillong, 31 October (H.S.): Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma on Saturday met Union Minister for Tribal Affairs Jual Oram and expressed gratitude for the Centre's support for initiatives benefiting tribal communities in the state.
In a post on X following the meeting, Sangma acknowledged Oram's support for efforts aimed at safeguarding the interests and promoting the welfare of Meghalaya's tribal population.
The meeting comes against the backdrop of earlier engagements between the state and the Centre on tribal welfare. On August 21, Meghalaya Assembly Speaker Thomas A. Sangma met Oram in New Delhi and submitted the Detailed Project Report for the second phase of the new Meghalaya Legislative Assembly building. He also sought the early release of the pending Central share of scholarships for tribal students, requesting that the amount be released in a single instalment to avoid uncertainty among beneficiaries.
