Kolkata, 31 October (H.S.) : In a major joint operation, the Punjab Police and West Bengal Police arrested former Army personnel Rajbir Singh from Hasimara in the Alipurduar district on Friday. A statement issued by the district police on Saturday revealed that Singh faces severe allegations of providing highly classified information related to the Indian Army to Pakistan's intelligence agency, the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI).

According to available information, Punjab Police officials arrived in North Bengal to apprehend the absconding accused. It is reported that Rajbir was hiding in Hasimara and continuously transmitting sensitive national security information to the ISI from there.

Following the arrest, the Punjab Police team departed for their home state with the accused to proceed with further legal action.

Additional Public Prosecutor Soumitra Sinha Sarkar stated that Rajbir Singh had previously served in the Indian Army. The case originated from a formal complaint lodged at a police station in Punjab on October 8, 2026. The First Information Report (FIR) alleged that two army personnel were leaking internal and confidential information of the Indian Army to Pakistan's ISI.

Based on this complaint, a case was registered under Section 34 of the Official Secrets Act. Investigating this highly sensitive matter involving national security, the Punjab Police had been actively searching for Rajbir. Acting on credible intelligence regarding his hideout in Hasimara, the police executed a swift operation, successfully apprehending him after completing mandatory medical examinations.
