Mumbai, 30 October (H.S.): Actress Shraddha Kapoor is set to appear in a completely different avatar in her upcoming film ‘Eetha’. Maddock Films and Kathputli Creations have unveiled the film’s trailer, offering a glimpse of Kapoor as the legendary Lavani performer Eetha Bai.
Directed by Laxman Utekar, the film is inspired by the life of a woman who overcame social restrictions and numerous challenges to carve out a distinct identity through her art. The trailer vividly captures the colourful world of Lavani, its music and dance, while also highlighting Eetha Bai’s struggles and determination.
According to producer Dinesh Vijan, Eetha Bai’s story is not merely an account of an artist’s success but also brings to light the courage, sacrifices and struggles of women who have kept the rich Lavani tradition alive. He observed that while audiences have consistently appreciated Lavani performances, relatively little attention has been paid to the lives and hardships of the women who helped establish and preserve this art form. Through the film, the makers seek to bring such untold stories to the big screen.
Shraddha Kapoor described portraying the character as a special experience, saying that Eetha Bai’s artistry, courage and determination to establish an identity of her own had deeply inspired her. She also described working with director Laxman Utekar as an exciting experience.
Utekar, meanwhile, said that after the success of ‘Chhaava’, he wanted to introduce audiences to an entirely different world. According to the director, ‘Eetha’ tells the story of an artist who transformed her craft into a lasting legacy.
The film has been produced by Dinesh Vijan and Laxman Utekar, and is scheduled to release in theatres on December 4, 2026.
