Srinagar, Oct 30 (HS): National Conference (NC) MLA from Shangus-Anantnag East, Reyaz Ahmad Khan, on Friday said that stopping traffic during convoy movement on the highway is an injustice to the people of Jammu and Kashmir, and expressed confidence that the problem will be resolved soon.
Speaking to media, Khan said traffic is stopped on both sides of the highway during convoy movement, causing difficulties for patients, students and the general public. He said traffic is stopped even on the part of the road on which no military convoy is moving. “This is an injustice to the people of Jammu and Kashmir,” he said.
“This is in our manifesto, and we are working on it. Since this department is not in our hands, even so, the chief minister has raised the issue,” Khan said. He said the matter was brought to the notice of the chief minister at the last board meeting. “We said people should not face difficulties. Patients, students and passers-by are facing great hardship. We are keeping an eye on the issue. God willing, this problem will be resolved very soon,” he said.
His remarks came after Minister Sakina Itoo, also of the NC, raised concerns earlier in the day over the restrictions on the Srinagar-Anantnag-Kulgam-Qazigund National Highway. In a post on X, Itoo had said ambulances are stranded, students miss classes and ordinary people wait for 15 to 30 minutes, sometimes hours, for convoy movement, and appealed to Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha to explore practical traffic management measures.
